A keynote event on the first day of the inaugural Architecture at the Edge festival will provide an opportunity for architects, planners, designers, creatives and local communities to talk about the shape of our built environment. The half day symposium entitled ‘Placemaking’ will be held on Friday 29th September at the O’Donoghue Centre NUI, Galway. What makes a great place to live? Who is involved in the making of places in which we live, work and play? How can we make more of our public places? These are just some of the questions to be explored at the symposium.

Galway architect firm wins award for Rosmuc school extension

Galway based Paul Dillon Architects has won the Best Educational Building Award for its extension to Gairmscoil na bPiarsach in Rosmuc at the 2017 RIAI Architecture Awards. The company also won the Highly Commended Award for its design of the extension to Kilrickle National School.

The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) has marked Westport’s 250th birthday with a free public talk and guided walk of the town last Saturday. Led by Simon Wall (Westport town architect), a group of culture seekers learned about Westport’s urban regeneration over the past two decades, during which time Westport experienced its largest building programme since Georgian times.

Westport sculpture nominated in Irish Architecture Awards

The public realm space The Sentinel sculpture in Westport, is among 50 projects shortlisted for this year’s RIAI Irish Architecture Awards, which were announced by The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI). The Sentinal sculpture which was created by Ronan Halpin was commissioned by Westport Town Council in 2013 following the town winning the award for the ‘Best Place to Live in Ireland’.
